Royal Caribbean cancels Enchantment of the Seas due to closure of PortMiami from Hurricane Irma

In:
12 Sep 2017

Royal Caribbean announced it is forced to cancel the September 11th sailing of Enchantment of the Seas due to the continued closure of the port, and the uncertainty as to when normal operations will resume.

USA Today reports PortMiami is closed to all marine traffic because of vessels that sank in the channel due to Hurricane Irma.

Enchantment of the Seas was scheduled to be a 4-night cruise that departed on September 11th, but Hurricane Irma caused Royal Caribbean to delay her departure a day to September 12th.  With PortMiami remaining closed, the ship cannot conduct its cruise at all and thus, the sailing has been cancelled.

Royal Caribbean delays Enchantment of the Seas departure date and skips St. Maarten for Adventure of the Seas due to Hurricane Irma

In:
07 Sep 2017

Royal Caribbean announced more changes to its scheduled itineraries due to Hurricane Irma.

Adventure of the Seas will depart as planned on Saturday, September 9, but will skip a port stop in St. Maarten due to the damage caused by Hurricane Irma.  Instead, the ship will replace this port with an overnight in Aruba.

The Enchantment of the Seas sailing scheduled for September 11th has been delayed and will now depart on Tuesday, September 12th and will sail a 3-night itinerary to the Bahamas. Given the unpredictability of Irma, Royal Caribbean will advise if there are any changes to the itinerary as soon as they know. Guests opting to sail on Enchantment will receive a refund of 25% of your cruise fare paid in the form of a refundable onboard credit.

Guests who are unable to travel and need to cancel their cruise can receive a 100% future cruise credit. Pre-booked shore excursions will be refunded to your original form of payment.

Royal Caribbean is still monitoring these sailings, and will provide an update at 6pm EDT:

  • Anthem of the Seas: September 9 Bermuda cruise
  • Majesty of the Seas (charter cruise): September 11 Bahamas cruise

Hurricane Irma is a category 5 storm with sustained winds of 180 mph. Irma passed just north of San Juan, Puerto Rico and is currently located just north of the Dominican moving west at 17 mph. The current forecasts suggest that Hurricane Irma is tracking towards southeast Florida and should arrive Sunday morning, and then proceed to Port Canaveral Monday morning. The storm should exit the Florida area late Monday, pre-dawn Tuesday.

The following sailings are departing as scheduled:

  • Grandeur of the Seas: September 7 New England/Canada cruise

Royal Caribbean announced today a number of new sailing options to the Caribbean from New Orleans, Galveston and Miami.

After a three-year hiatus, Royal Caribbean will return to offering cruises from New Orleans, Louisiana with Vision of the Seas in the winter of 2018-2019. Beginning on December 15, 2018, Vision of the Seas will offer 7-night itineraries to the Bahamas and Yucatan Peninsula.

Before making her way to New Orleans, Vision of the Seas will offer two 16-night sailings through the Panama Canal from Miami to Los Angeles, California. This will be the first time in three years that Royal Caribbean has offered a cruise through the Panama Canal.

Lastly, Mariner of the Seas will call Miami, Florida home in 2018, following a transpacific cruise.  Mariner of the Seas will be the first Voyager Class ship to offer short Caribbean sailings. Before she offers cruises from her new home, Mariner of the Seas will undergo an extensive 32-day revitalization. Once back in service, Mariner of the Seas will offer 3- and 4-night itineraries from PortMiami, beginning on June 21, 2018.

Enchantment of the Seas will join Liberty of the Seas in Galveston, Texas, offering 4- and 5-night Caribbean cruises. Royal Caribbean changes itineraries for two more cruise ships because of Hurricane Matthew

In:
01 Oct 2016

The projected path of Hurricane Matthew has forced Royal Caribbean to change the itinerary for two more cruise ships.

Cruise Critic is reporting changes to Allure of the Seas and Enchantment of the Seas due to this massive storm.

Allure of the Seas will depart from Port Everglades as scheduled on October 2, but will change the order in which she visits her ports.

  • October 3: Sea Day
  • October 4: Cozumel 7am - 6pm
  • October 5: Sea day
  • October 6: Falmouth 7am - 4pm
  • October 7: Labadee 9:30am - 6pm
  • October 8: Sea Day
  • October 9: Port Everglades 6:15am

  • October 4: Sea Day
  • October 5: Cozumel 8am - 2pm
  • October 6: Key West 1:15pm - 7pm

Royal Caribbean changed the itinerary already for Adventure of the Seas and Allure of the Seas earlier this week to avoid the path of the storm that has become Hurricane Matthew.

Spotted: One-day Royal Caribbean unlimited alcohol package on Enchantment of the Seas

In:
28 Dec 2015

It appears Royal Caribbean is offering on Enchantment of the Seas a one-day unlimited alcohol package that is aimed at getting guests who do not want to commit to a full beverage package.

Megan Tellalian spotted this new deal on Enchantment of the Seas, where guests could purchase a "sea-day beverage package" for $65 per person.

This one day drink package includes unlimited beers, cocktails and select glasses of wine, as well as bottled water, juices and specialty coffees.  Essentially, it is a one-day version of the ultimate drink package.

Other guests have reported seeing a similar package on Anthem of the Seas, Grandeur of the Seas and Liberty of the Seas.

Would you buy a one-day unlimited drink package? Let us know in the comments!

Royal Caribbean adding Voom high speed internet to Freedom of the Seas and Enchantment of the Seas

In:
12 Nov 2015

Royal Caribbean kicked off its newest sales promotion this week with the BOGO GETTER deal, and in the fine print, it alludes to which other Royal Caribbean ships will be getting high speed internet.

The deal offers free Voom internet package for one device for Anthem, Harmony, Allure, Oasis, Freedom, and Enchantment of the Seas on select cruises in 2016.

Royal Caribbean had promised Voom will be available on all Caribbean based ships by mid-2016, but it has been unclear which ships would receive the upgrade.

Given the deal for free Voom internet is only good for cruises that depart between May 1 - Sep 30, 2016, it is possible that Voom internet may not be available onboard either Freedom of the Seas or Enchantment of the Seas until those dates.

Voom internet is currently available on Oasis of the Seas, Allure of the Seas, Quantum of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas.  Majesty of the Seas will be offering guests free Voom internet, following a scheduled 2016 refurbishment.

Voom internet is Royal Caribbean's exclusive high speed internet that allows guests to stream music and movies, upload pictures, video chat with family and friends using FaceTime or Skype, check their email, lookup their stock prices, surf the web and stay connected with work via VPN.

Hurricane Joaquin forces Royal Caribbean to change Enchantment of the Seas itinerary

In:
02 Oct 2015

Royal Caribbean has altered the itinerary for Enchantment of the Seas due to Hurricane Joaquin.

Due to the current path of the hurricane, Enchantment of the Seas will not be able to call on Nassau, Bahamas as originally scheduled. Instead, the ship will sail to Freeport, Bahamas in an effort to try to find the calmest seas possible.

No other Royal Caribbean ship itineraries have been changed yet.  This marks the first Royal Caribbean ship to be affected directly by the hurricane.

Royal Caribbean will continue to closely monitor weather conditions and will provide updates as soon as they become available.

3 surprising facts about Royal Caribbean's Enchantment of the Seas

In:
25 Sep 2015

Many of our blog readers are big fans of Royal Caribbean's Enchantment of the Seas.  She has garnered the admiration of many over the years, offering a lot in a small size.

Here are some quick facts about Enchantment of the Seas that you might not have know about!

1. Enchantment of the Seas has been stretched

Enchantment of the Seas is a different sized ship today than she was when she was launched.

As part of a ship-wide revitalization, in 2005 the Vision-class ship was cut in half and then expanded with a new 73-foot section and then put back together.

This "stretching" has given Enchantment of the Seas an unique distinction for being a different size than her other Vision-class sister ships.

2. Her Godmother is Colleen Fain

When Royal Caribbean builds a cruise ship, they will choose a godmother and often that will be celebrity but for Enchantment of the Seas, Royal Caribbean decided to keep the honor in the family. Literally.

The ship's "godmother" is Colleen Fain, the wife of Royal Caribbean Ltd Chairman Richard Fain.

Mrs. Fain's duties as godmother included giving the vessel its name during the Southampton ceremonies when she released a giant 46-liter bottle of Taittinger champagne to break against the ship's bow, officially proclaiming the ship's name to be Enchantment of the Seas and wished safe journeys to all of its passengers and crew.

3. There is a bar over the ocean

Enchantment of the Seas has one pool bar that actually juts out over the ocean.

The Oasis pool bar features a glass floor that gives passengers a view of the ocean below them as they enjoy their drinks.

Talk about a bar with a view!
