Cruise Critic awards Royal Caribbean as Best Cruise Line for Families

Cruise Critic, a world reknown cruise resource site, has announced the winners of its 2010 Editors' Picks Awards winners today and Royal Caribbean took home a few honors.

The annual awards evaluates cruise lines and ships according to the types of passengers to whom they cater. Then they compared, like-for-like, aiming to honor the very best cruise companies and highlight their particular strengths.

Royal Caribbean had the distinction of winning a few of these awards, such as...

  • Best for Families – Royal Caribbean
  • Best New Ship – Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas
  • Best Pool Scene – Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas

Royal Caribbean wins best beverage program award

Cheers magazine has awarded Royal Caribbean the "Best Chain Hotel Beverage Program" award in its 2011 Cheers Beverage Excellence Awards.

Cheers magazine is the only beverage business publication devoted to full-service restaurants, bars and hotels. The awards will be presented to the winners at the annual Cheers Beverage Conference, held on January 25-26, 2011 at the Marriott Hotel in New Orleans.

The awards program is open to all chain restaurants. A chain is defined as an operation with five or more locations in two or more markets. The chain must be in existence for at least three years. The criteria for these awards are a particular program's creativity, originality and impact on the sales and profitability of a full-service restaurant operation. Other factors considered are the level of marketing support, staff training and overall operator commitment to the initiative that lead to its success. Entries were evaluated by a judging panel that includes previous Beverage Excellence Award winners and Cheers staff.

Royal Caribbean's Ocean Fund honored with 2010 World Tourism Award

Royal Caribbean's Ocean Fund program has been awarded a 2010 World Tourism Award for their dedication to sustainable tourism and the preservation of natural and cultural heritage.

Royal Caribbean's Ocean Fund was awarded “in recognition of Royal Caribbean Cruises’ establishment of the Ocean fund which has awarded over $11 million in annual grants supporting nonprofit marine conservation organizations in protecting the world’s oceans through research, education and development of innovative technologies.”

Pan American Development Foundation to honor Royal Caribbean

The Pan American Development Foundation will honor Royal Caribbean as part of its 2010 Heroes of the Hemisphere event.  Royal Caribbean has been awarded this honor because of its" corporate social responsibility efforts in the Western Hemisphere". Also, the non-profit will recognize the efforts of everyone who provided relief to Haiti after the devastating earthquake.

In addition, five extraordinary people from Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Brazil and Mexico will be honored as the 2010 Heroes of the Hemisphere for their dedication to improving the lives of people in their communities

Royal Caribbean receives Readers’ Choice Platinum Award

Royal Caribbean lead the field in this years Readers’ Choice Platinum Award, which was awarded by Celebrated Living magazine. The magazine is described as "The Luxury Magazine for American Airlines Premium Class Passengers" and ranked a few different cruise lines but in the end, Royal Caribbean garnered the top choice.

"Despite its name, Royal Caribbean International has expanded beyond steel bands and limbo contests to make the whole world its oyster, including sophisticated operations in Asia and the Pacific as well as traditional itineraries in Alaska, Europe, and, yes, the Caribbean. Coming this December is the Allure of the Seas, sister ship of 2009’s spectacular 18-deck Oasis of the Seas, currently known as the world’s largest cruise ship."

Considering the competition for this award included cruise lines such as Seabourn, Princess, Norwegian and others, it's definitely an award that Royal Caribbean is sure to be proud of.

Mariner, Radiance & Serenade of the Seas win Port of San Francisco Environmental Gold Award

The Royal Caribbean Twitter account announced that Mariner of the Seas, Radiance of the Seas and Serenade of the Seas had won the prestigious Port of San Francisco Environmental Gold Award.  The annual award recognizes vessels for demonstrating “the strong environmental commitment of Princess Cruises in the areas of air emission reduction, waste water treatment, and recycling and disposal programs for solid waste.” This distinction is awarded by San Francisco’s Cruise Terminal Environmental Advisory Committee.

The CTEAC operates the program to recognize cruise lines that are committed to environmentally responsible operations, include the deployment of ships using reduced emission system technology or cleaner-burning fuel.

Royal Caribbean ships have long been proponents of environmental awareness and their ships have a number of "green technology" elements on board such as advanced wastewater purification systems, window tinting and operational conservation measures.
