5 things you will love about Johnny Rockets on Royal Caribbean

In:
16 Nov 2015

Royal Caribbean's partnership with Johnny Rockets has lead to years of burgers, fries and shakes for guests to enjoy.

Johnny Rockets has become a cruising tradition for many Royal Caribbean fans, and we have some favorite aspects to share for your next visit!

5. It's free for breakfast

On Oasis class ships, Johnny Rockets is open for breakfast and it is free!

During breakfast, you will find classic American fare (just like the other meals), including pancakes, breakfast sandwiches, eggs, French toast and more.

Besides the price tag, Johnny Rockets is often a less crowded spot for breakfast, so if you need a break from breakfast in the Windjammer, head over to the Boardwalk and start your morning there.

4. The dancing

Part of Johnny Rockets' appeal is the schtick of being a 1950s diner, down to the wait staff.

Throughout your meal, the Johnny Rockets waiters and cooks will line up and start dancing to the music.  Heck, they might even invite you to join them.

This part of the meal is not just entertaining, it is also an endearing aspect of the experience and something you have to see at least once if dining there.

3. Dessert!

Everyone talks about the burgers, fries and other food available as part of your meal but do not overlook (or forget about) dessert!

Lesser appreciated, although no less tasty, Johnny Rockets' dessert options are really amazing.

The ice cream sundae and apple pie are really, really good and worth skipping a few onion rings to save room for.

2. Look for discounts

The cover charge to dine at Johnny Rockets wont break anyone's bank, but there are still ways to save a few dollars when dining there.

Royal Caribbean Crown and Anchor Society members will have discounts preloaded on their SeaPass card at the beginning of their cruise, including a discount for Johnny Rockets.

The exact discount will vary depending on your Crown and Anchor Society status, but in the past, we have seen discounts for buy one, get one milkshakes as well as complimentary cover charges.

1. The milkshakes

You can tell something is really good when everything else on the menu is included in the cover charge except for one thing.

The milkshakes at Johnny Rockets are made with hand-dipped premium ice cream and are as good as they sound.

Milkshakes come in three flavors: vanilla, chocolate or strawberry.

There is an additional cost to the milkshakes, but it might be one of the best, inexpensive splurges available on your Royal Caribbean cruise.

Everything about Royal Caribbean's Solarium

In:
16 Nov 2015

Royal Caribbean ships offer a lot, including an adults-only retreat known as the Solarium.

Vision of the Seas solarium

The Solarium is a part of every Royal Caribbean ship, where adults can enjoy a pool experience and simply relax.

If you want to know more about this adults oasis, then here is what you need to know.

What is the Solarium

solarium-navigator-of-the-seas.

Essentially, the Solarium is the adults-only pool that is open to guests that are at least 18 years old. Royal Caribbean changed the minimum age from 16 to 18 in 2023.

In some rare cases, the Solarium will be opened up to guests under the age of 18, provided they are directly supervised by a parent or guardian.

The Solarium often includes a pool, hot tub, seating area and a bar.

A nice difference between the Solarium and the main pools are Royal Caribbean tends to have cushioned lounge chairs available to use in the Solarium.

In addition, the Solarium on most ships is glass-canopied to ensure the area is always temperate.  The glass keeps the heat in, and often, the Solarium is one of the warmest spots onboard.

How is the Solarium different across ships?

The layout and features of the Solarium vary by classes of ship.

In general, the Solarium area has gotten larger and offered more to guests in the larger and newer Royal Caribbean ships.

Most Solarium pools are a single wading pool, whereas on the Quantum class ships, the Solarium features a series of cascading lagoons in the center, where guests can swim.

Mariner of the Seas Solarium

Some Solariums have a retractable roof, whereas on other ships it is fixed.

On Harmony of the Seas, there is no pool in the Solarium but there are hot tubs.

Majesty of the Seas does not have a Solarium.

Where is the Solarium located?

Here is a breakdown by ship class of where the Solarium is located

  • Vision class: Deck 9 mid
  • Radiance class: Deck 11 forward
  • Voyager class:  Deck 11 forward
  • Freedom class:  Deck 11 forward
  • Oasis class: Deck 15 forward
  • Quantum class: Deck 14 forward

Is there any additional cost to use the Solarium?

No, the Solarium is free for adults to use.

Spotted: Giant cupcake for sale on Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas

In:
15 Nov 2015

It is probably safe to assume most people really enjoy a good cupcake, but how about a giant cupcake?

On Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas, Royal Caribbean Blog reader Rich Freudenberg spotted this giant cupcake for those that enjoy cupcakes but wish they could be a meal.

If you are wondering just how giant this cupcake is, here is a normal sized cupcake compared to the giant variety.

That is a big cupcake!

Guests can purchase this giant cupcake in the Cupcake Cupboard on Freedom of the Seas and comes in your choice of colors, and even has a cherry on top.

You can have these giant cupcakes for a variety of occasions.

At $25, this cupcake costs as much as a meal, but it might make sense as a cake replacement idea (and certainly more interesting).

What do you think of the giant cupcake?  Please let us know with a comment!

Royal Caribbean tests charging for RFID WOWband bracelets on Anthem of the Seas

In:
13 Nov 2015

In a reversal of policy, Royal Caribbean has begun charging $4.99 for its new RFID bracelets, known as WOWbands, on Anthem of the Seas.

Guests aboard the first commercially available Anthem of the Seas sailing this week discovered Royal Caribbean is now charging for the WOWbands, although WOWbands are still complimentary for suite guests.

Guests may purchase WOWbands at Guest Services and purchased WOWbands are reusable on future cruises.

When Royal Caribbean originally announced the WOWbands product, there was a small nominal charge of $2 per band, but Royal Caribbean quickly changed that policy to make them free to all guests.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT WOWBANDS

WOWbands are RFID enabled bracelets that that allows passengers to connect with a number of Royal Caribbean experiences, such as purchase goods and services, access stateroom doors and check-in for activities or entertainment.  They are essentially a replacement for the traditional SeaPass card.

Thanks to Royal Caribbean Blog reader Kenneth Jarvis for updating us on this news.

UPDATE: Royal Caribbean has issued a statement regarding the change:

Royal Caribbean International is currently testing a new pricing strategy for the WOWBands found onboard Anthem of the Seas. Guests who wish to use a WOWBand in place of their SeaPass card may purchase one in the onboard gift shop for $4.99. Guests in Suites (Junior Suites and above) will continue to receive the WOWBands in their staterooms at no charge.

This is currently only being tested on Anthem of the Seas and guests on Quantum of the Seas will continue to receive their WOWBands at no additional costs.

Royal Caribbean kicks off new social media marketing with live broadcasts on Periscope today

In:
13 Nov 2015

Royal Caribbean begins a big social media push today with the launch of "Come Seek Live" marketing campaign on Periscope.

Royal Caribbean is using the social media app Periscope to integrate on billboards on the streets of New York City, as part of the company's "Come Seek" campaign.  Periscope and the billboards will showcase live interactions with adventurers aboard Anthem of the Seas, as she sails to five distinct Caribbean destinations.

The "Come Seek Live" experiences begin today and will encompass 13 live broadcasts from five islands over seven days.

COME SEEK LIVE will be streamed to subway displays and newsstand screens at hyper-targeted locations around the city including Grand Central, Penn Station, Union Square, West 14th and 7th Ave., 86th and Lexington Ave., Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall, and Fulton Center.

Streaming events will begin at the Las Playas natural water slide in Puerto Rico and adventure-hop from playing with green monkeys at the Wildlife Reserve in Barbados to riding ATVs in St. Maarten or enjoying a post-expedition refreshment made by a robot at Anthem’s Bionic Bar.

Periscope followers will be able to direct the adventurers next steps with the unfolding story showing followers what they could be doing right at that moment onboard a Royal Caribbean adventure.

Royal Caribbean senior vice president and chief marketing officer, Jim Berra, is excited for Come Seek Live to begin, "COME SEEK LIVE is an exciting way for Royal Caribbean to challenge the misperceptions travelers have about the cruise industry. We are continually evolving the experience across our fleet, designing adventures that inspire and excite our travelers.  It is natural that we would bring this innovation to the transformation of our marketing as well, especially as we recognize that millennials require us to communicate with them using new channels."

To join in the COME SEEK LIVE expedition, follow Royal Caribbean on Periscope at www.Periscope.TV/RoyalCaribbean.

Royal Caribbean adding Voom high speed internet to Freedom of the Seas and Enchantment of the Seas

In:
12 Nov 2015

Royal Caribbean kicked off its newest sales promotion this week with the BOGO GETTER deal, and in the fine print, it alludes to which other Royal Caribbean ships will be getting high speed internet.

The deal offers free Voom internet package for one device for Anthem, Harmony, Allure, Oasis, Freedom, and Enchantment of the Seas on select cruises in 2016.

Royal Caribbean had promised Voom will be available on all Caribbean based ships by mid-2016, but it has been unclear which ships would receive the upgrade.

Given the deal for free Voom internet is only good for cruises that depart between May 1 - Sep 30, 2016, it is possible that Voom internet may not be available onboard either Freedom of the Seas or Enchantment of the Seas until those dates.

Voom internet is currently available on Oasis of the Seas, Allure of the Seas, Quantum of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas.  Majesty of the Seas will be offering guests free Voom internet, following a scheduled 2016 refurbishment.

Voom internet is Royal Caribbean's exclusive high speed internet that allows guests to stream music and movies, upload pictures, video chat with family and friends using FaceTime or Skype, check their email, lookup their stock prices, surf the web and stay connected with work via VPN.
