Alaska Senator pushing to suspend law requiring cruise ships visit Canada

Amidst the ongoing trade war between the United States and Canada, one U.S. Senator threatened to have cruise ships skip Canada when cruising to Alaska.

Ovation of the Seas docked in Alaska

Historically, Alaska cruises sailing round-trip from the U.S. have had to call at a Canadian port to satisfy the Passenger Vessel Service Act (PVSA) of 1886, which requires foreign-flagged cruise ships to visit a foreign port if sailing a closed-loop cruise from the United States.

Alaska’s U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan claimed he'd propose an amendment to the PVSA after British Columbia Premier David Eby said he'd introduce legislation to place tolls on Alaska-bound commercial trucks.

“I’m here to share that we will be introducing a new law in the coming days to respond to this historic challenge: unprecedented legislation. It will include such countermeasures as allowing the province to apply fees to commercial trucks that transit through British Columbia on their way to Alaska,” Eby said speaking at the Legislative Assembly building in Victoria.

Radiance of the Seas docked in Skagway

As a result, Sullivan said Congress could pass a law exempting cruise ships from the required stop in Canada when sailing from the Lower 48 to Alaska.

Alternatively, he could seek an exemption by executive order issued by President Trump. Either way, Sullivan claimed the impact on Canada's economy could be in the "billions."

“You know, Canada, you don’t want to mess with Alaska,” Sullivan added, “If you do, we’re going to work hard on having our cruise ships bypass your ports, and that’ll help our economy tremendously, it’ll help our tourism industry tremendously, and it’ll really hurt their tourism.”

Ovation in Alaska

Currently, cruise ships that depart from U.S. ports like Seattle often call at Victoria on the final evening of the cruise before making their way back to Washington.

For example, a round-trip Alaska cruise on Anthem of the Seas may depart from Seattle and visit Sitka, Skagway, and Endicott Arm & Dawes Glacier before making its way to Victoria.

This new exemption would mean that cruise ships no longer have to visit Canada on voyages from the U.S. Instead, they could potentially adjust their itineraries to include additional stops in Alaska or spend more time offering scenic cruising at glaciers.

If Sullivan's threats are successful, it wouldn't be the first time the United States passed an exemption

Glacier tour

In 2021, Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) introduced a new bill to repeal and reform the PVSA. The Alaska Tourism Restoration Act (ATRA) was signed into law in May but was only temporary and applied just to 2021 cruises.

Before the act went into effect, Canada banned cruise ships from entering their waters due to the global pandemic. As such, Alaska cruises from the United States—such as Seattle or San Francisco—were impossible.

U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) tried to make the change permanent, arguing that the requirement "unintentionally put many Alaskan businesses at the mercy of the Canadian government."

View of Alaska

The Cruising for Alaska’s Workforce Act would have allowed any ship carrying more than 1,000 passengers to transport passengers between a port in Alaska and another port in the United States, directly or by way of a foreign port.

I tried Royal Caribbean’s new adults-only beach at its private island. I'm not convinced the cost was worth it

Allie Hubers

I’ve cruised around the world, but one of my favorite ports of call is Royal Caribbean’s private island in the Bahamas. The cruise line’s renowned Perfect Day at CocoCay is one of the most popular destinations in Royal Caribbean’s portfolio.

Hideaway

With access to pristine beaches, freshwater pools, sun loungers, swim-up bars, and more, you can enjoy a perfect beach day. I probably visit Perfect Day at CocoCay once a year, as I live in Florida and cruise often.

Like many guests, I am drawn to the private island for its safety, convenience, and all-inclusive experience. For instance, your onboard drink package and loyalty drink vouchers can be used ashore at CocoCay - a favorite perk for many.

In January 2024, Royal Caribbean expanded its private island with a new adult-only section called Hideaway Beach. The entire section is kid-free and offers impressive amenities for cruisers to enjoy throughout the day.

However, you need to purchase a pass to Hideaway Beach if you want to spend the day here. The cost of entrance varies depending on demand, but prices can be as high as $99 per person for admission.

I spent the day at Royal Caribbean’s new adults-only oasis on my recent cruise. We had a lot of fun, but I’m not sure the cost we paid was worthwhile

To start, we paid more for our day pass than others in our travel party because we booked later

My husband and I decided a few months ago that we wanted to join my family on a 4-night cruise. We would be cruising with my parents, grandparents, aunt, and uncle for this sailing. The short itinerary was aboard Utopia of the Seas, which is Royal Caribbean’s newest cruise ship and latest Oasis class ship.

On the quick itinerary, one of our two ports of call included a visit to Perfect Day at CocoCay. Everyone else in our travel group had already booked Hideaway Beach a few months before we even decided to join the cruise.

When I went to book our admission, the cost was more than I expected! Although they paid $30 each for their passes to Hideaway Beach, we paid more than double for our admission.

My husband and I ended up paying $173 for both of us to spend the day there, which is on the higher end at $86.50 each. We had a $50 onboard credit, which we used to bring down the price. This brought the cost down to $123, or $61.50 each.

With two ships scheduled to be in port this day, the island would have thousands of visitors. Hideaway Beach only has a capacity for about 1,800 guests. This ensures a more exclusive experience across the more than one acre of beachfront property. All guests need to be 18 years or older to visit Hideaway Beach.

Admission to Hideaway Beach includes access to the freshwater pool, swim-up bar, and beach. You can also utilize resort-style loungers, umbrellas, and in-water hammocks. Food is also included as a step above what you can access elsewhere on CocoCay, with options from Hideaway Hut and Slice of Paradise.

After stepping off the ship, we took the tram to Hideaway Beach for convenience, as it was our first time visiting

Once we arrived at Perfect Day, we followed signs to Hideaway Beach. We were traveling with my elderly grandparents, so we appreciated the quick access to this tram. In addition, we weren’t exactly sure where to go as first-timers.

We boarded the tram in a small waiting area before making our way to the entrance of Hideaway Beach. The drive was very short, probably under two minutes. I would guess it's around a five-minute walk along a sandy path.

To enter Hideaway Beach, you simply scan your SeaPass card. Reaching the adults-only area was a breeze between the signage, tram service, and quick entrance with your cruise card.

We made our way to the heated pool first and grabbed a refreshing cocktail from the swim-up bar

Upon entering Hideaway Beach, my grandparents took a break from walking to sit under the large shaded area. There were multiple places to rest, including a large wooden bench, along with padded couches, chairs, and tables. Those looking for shade would appreciate being able to overlook the pool, palm trees, ocean, and swim-up bar.

We headed straight for the swim-up bar, Hideaway Bar, and immediately appreciated the heated water. It was refreshing, but not too warm. I opted for a Bahama Mama cocktail first, utilizing one of my free daily Diamond Plus drink vouchers, while my husband ordered a piña colada.

The DJ was already playing party tunes, creating a lively atmosphere in the pool. My husband and I liked the party music, but my parents and grandparents found the music to be a little loud for their liking.

Surrounding the pool, there were plenty of in-water loungers and a few daybeds, which are first come first serve. Supposedly, these are hot commodities and only the first few visitors to Hideaway Beach are able to score these coveted seats.

For those who want something more private, you can also rent two different kinds of cabanas. The Hideaway Cabanas are located near the pool, while the Hideout Cabanas are more VIP and exclusive with their own private pool. There are 10 cabanas available for each section that accommodate up to six guests each. I didn’t feel the need to spend more money, as these cost anywhere from $899 to $2,699.

The heated infinity pool was stunning as it overlooked the pristine beach and ocean. We spent plenty of time taking in the view of the sea while enjoying drinks from the swim-up bar and listening to the party music.

Next, we relaxed at On the Rocks, an open-air bar offering a perfect retreat with stunning ocean views

Situated along the rocky shore of the island is Hideaway Beach’s newest bar, On the Rocks. The vibrant bar featured live musicians playing beach tunes throughout the afternoon, which we enjoyed while relaxing in comfortable, padded chairs.

My grandparents especially appreciated the al fresco bar, as they could see the ocean and listen to the live music comfortably. You could also play games if you wanted, including pool and shuffleboard.

On the Rocks was surprisingly quiet with few lines, allowing for quick bar service. The coconut mojito was perfectly mixed here! Because we scored a table large enough for everyone to relax comfortably, this was our home base for the rest of the day. Considering the sand would be too difficult for my grandparents to navigate, this was a great area for those with mobility concerns.

Hideaway Beach has plenty of beach loungers and umbrellas available, but many were unused during our visit

Most of the Hideaway Beach guests opted to spend their day in the heated pool rather than the beach. The adults-only area features its own beach with a shallow lagoon, which looked relatively calm thanks to the cove shape.

The beach runs along the entirety of Hideaway Beach, and it’s easily one of the largest beaches at CocoCay. Because we visited in February, the ocean water was cooler. As Floridians, the ocean was too chilly for us to swim comfortably. However, that didn’t stop others from floating, swimming, and relaxing in the ocean water.

There are many resort-style loungers and umbrellas along the shore of the beach, although many of them were unused. There were also in-water hammocks and swings on the far end of the beach, which we didn’t get the opportunity to use. However, my mom used one of the hammocks last year and flipped over almost instantaneously, so I was hesitant to try it myself!

Surrounding the beach were hundreds of loungers and umbrellas. I assume these are busier during the summer months when the ocean water is warmer. During our visit, the umbrellas and beach chairs were largely unused by guests. There was no shortage of chairs, and I can’t imagine anyone would need to fight for chairs.

Access to Hideaway Beach includes upgraded dining options, including ceviche and coconut shrimp

Food is already included when visiting Perfect Day at CocoCay, with a variety of eateries and Snack Shacks located across the island, serving hot, fresh, and fast meals. At Hideaway Beach, guests have access to all the standard dining options, along with a selection of exclusive new menu items.

Two restaurants are included in the admission to Hideaway Beach, including Hideaway Hut and Slice of Paradise. One of the highlights of visiting Hideaway Beach is the access to coconut shrimp, fish sandwiches, ceviche, and pizza! Because there isn’t pizza available elsewhere on the island, this is an exciting addition.

My husband said the coconut shrimp was fantastic; he loved it so much, he had 20 shrimps throughout the day! The pizza was nothing special, and we thought Sorrento’s onboard was better. Slice of Paradise also serves empanadas, which we didn’t try.

I don’t eat seafood, so most of these upgraded food options were not appealing to me. I opted for the crispy chicken sandwich with a side of basil mayo and crispy French fries. Of course, I also had to get a side of mozzarella sticks, one of my favorite items at CocoCay!

For dessert, we tried the caramel brownie and funnel cake. It’s not every day that you have unlimited access to fresh funnel cakes - and it did not disappoint. The caramel brownie was also fantastically fudgy, dense, and chocolatey.

We all appreciated the convenience of clean facilities and amenities offered at Hideaway Beach, too

While spending the entire day at Hideaway Beach, I was particularly impressed by the facilities and amenities offered throughout. No one likes using the bathroom after swimming in a pool, but it’s an inevitable stop you’ll need to make during the day.

I was somewhat dreading needing to use a public bathroom on the beach, but I was assured the bathrooms were well maintained. In this way, I was impressed by the facilities and cleanliness of the bathrooms available. They were also easy to access from On The Rocks along a paved path, which we appreciated for our elderly grandparents.

Ice water stations were readily available near the Hideaway Hut, allowing you to stay hydrated easily throughout the day. Ice cream machines were also accessible in this area, with an attendant serving up the cones throughout the day. It’s not self-serve, but you can get as much as you want.

Complimentary lockers to store your belongings are available for guests to use, along with outdoor freshwater showers to rinse off.

I liked trying something new, but I’m not sure Hideaway Beach was worth the cost

Having visited Perfect Day at CocoCay multiple times, I was eager to check out the new adults-only Hideaway Beach. My parents and sister had already experienced it and couldn’t stop raving about it.

Since we don’t have kids, it was a refreshing change to enjoy a child-free retreat, especially with so many families sailing aboard Utopia of the Seas. The entire area feels more exclusive than the rest of the island. I normally spend my days at CocoCay lounging in the Oasis Lagoon and swim-up bar, which can get crowded quickly.

There were more people in Hideaway Beach than I had anticipated, but it didn’t feel crowded or cramped. We found seating easily without worrying about chair logs — a welcomed change for sure!

However, I’m not convinced that Hideaway Beach is worth paying over $100 per person. My seafood-loving family members felt they got their money’s worth with the coconut shrimp, but since I stuck to the standard food options, the value wasn’t as obvious for me.

Trying something new was fun, especially when my family members were already planning to spend the day here. We didn’t want to be the only ones who didn’t visit Hideaway Beach, so we will treasure the memories with my family. In addition, my grandparents were able to maneuver the island easily with their walkers on paved walkways, which was worthwhile.

In the future, I’m not sure I would book a pass to Hideaway Beach. If the price was closer to $30 per person, this could be worth it. However, I think there are plenty of complimentary amenities and places to spend the day at CocoCay to enjoy your day.

I stayed in different cruise cabins on Royal Caribbean's newest ship. Here's how they compared - and which was the best value by far.

I've cruised seven times so far on Royal Caribbean's Utopia of the Seas, and that's afforded me the chance to try a few kinds of rooms.

Matt in UFS

The most common type of room I booked was an oceanview balcony because they give me extra living space, a private veranda, and they're not nearly as expensive as a suite.

I also got to try three different suites, which are some of the biggest rooms you can enjoy on a cruise ship.

Suites are expensive, but they're unlike traditional cabins because of how much extra space they have and better perks too.

Here's how the spaces stacked up on the newest ship in the fleet — and which cruise room I liked best for its excellent value.

I stayed in balcony cabins because they were priced well

utopia of the seas balcony cabin

No matter which ship you're sailing on, it's hard to go wrong with a balcony cabin for the space and price balance it provides.

I stayed in a balcony cabin on three different cruises, including the first voyage I went on even before the ship launched as part of a media event that Royal Caribbean invited me to.

I then subsequently stayed in balcony cabins on two other sailings, including most recently in a connecting oceanview balcony when we booked two of them with my kids.

Vanity

One advantage of sailing on a new ship like Utopia is you have modern decor and plenty of connectivity. It's such a relief to have USB and power outlets on both sides of the bed, as well as around the cabin.

While bringing a USB hub with you is a great cabin hack, it's probably unnecessary on a ship like Utopia.

I'm also impressed by how much storage space there is in this cabin.

Inside a balcony room

My wife and I each had our own giant closet, and there was still a set of drawers and other places to put our belongings.  More than enough space for a weekend cruise.

The price of a balcony cabin for two people on Utopia of the Seas for a 3-night cruise ranged between $1700 and $2000, depending on how in-demand that sailing was.  While that price is significantly more than a balcony cabin on an older ship that is on a longer sailing, the reality is you're paying a higher price to enjoy the very best Royal Caribbean has to offer around the ship.

utopia of the seas balcony cabin

Of course, the best thing about a balcony cabin is the actual balcony itself!

My wife and I love to go out here for sailaway and enjoy the views without competing for a spot on the pool deck. Plus, it's quieter too.

She prefers a balcony as a quiet reading spot on sea days, and there's enough room for the two chairs they provide to make it feel quite cozy.

Utopia bedroom

When our kids were younger, it was so nice having that extra space for them.

Ultimately, I still think a balcony is the best value you'll find on any cruise ship because of the space you get compared to what you paid.

It's usually not much more money to upgrade from an interior cabin to a balcony, and I really like the fresh air and views you get with a balcony.

An inside cabin was spacious and comfortable

Inside cabin on Utopia of the Seas

Inside rooms are the most cost effective cabin you book, and our writer Allie just sailed in one of the smallest cabins on Utopia.

With an inside room, you're usually getting the lowest price and that's exactly why Allie chose this room. It cost just $1,539 for two people on a 4-night cruise.

Located near the aft of the ship, this room may have been the least expensive cabin, but there was enough size for two people to share it. Even without natural light, the stateroom didn’t feel dark or cramped.

Couch in cabin on Utopia of the Seas

A few things stood out about this room. First, it had a full couch that added somewhere else to sit besides the bed.

Second, the room had so much storage space. Royal Caribbean's Oasis Class ships have lots of storage space, even if Utopia is only doing short cruises.

USB outlets

Allie also loved how many USB outlets the room had. Regardless of your stateroom type, every cabin has lots of extra plugs to use, "Between our phones, iPads, laptops, headphones, and smartwatches, we utilized most of these outlets during the cruise."

Another win with this cabin was the bathroom.

Inside cabin bathroom

Instead of a cramped bathroom that you'd find traditionally on older ships, this bathroom felt incredibly spacious.

The shower alone was quite big and was easily twice the size of those on older cruise ships, providing plenty of room to move around comfortably.

Crown Loft Suite

Crown Loft Suite

The first suite experience I had on Utopia of the Seas was for the inaugural sailing when I took my family with me, and we booked a Crown Loft Suite.

Located within the Suite Neighborhood, these are two deck cabins that have some of the best views from any stateroom.

This room measured 670 square feet, which was almost four times bigger than the balcony I stayed in.  That's in addition to the 105 square foot balcony that comes with the room.

Crown Loft Suite living room

That amount of living space is welcome considering I was sharing the room with my wife and two kids.

The layout is the master bedroom and bathroom are upstairs, with the living room downstairs.  The kids share a sofa that converts to a bed.

Loft suite bathroom

I love that this room has two full bathrooms, one on each floor.  This makes sharing this cabin with my kids palatable given how much time they spend in there as teenagers.

Suite Sun deck on Utopia of the Seas

Because this room was located on deck 18, I really liked how convenient it was to get to the suite sun deck, Coastal Kitchen, or Suite Lounge.

Royal Caribbean designed the suite area on Utopia (and Wonder of the Seas) to be far more integrated. In fact, I think the suite sun deck is my favorite area of this ship, and I'd often go out there to do work.

This room also comes with the Sky Class suite benefits, which include complimentary WiFi for everyone, access to Coastal Kitchen restaurant, access to the suite concierge and much more.

Crown Loft Suite balcony

Of course, suites aren't cheap and they are definitely not going to be a great value on a brand new ship where premium fares are the norm.

I liked that we had a single room for all four of us, but the sleeping arrangement isn't ideal necessarily.

Ultimate Family Suite

Ultimate Family Suite

The biggest splurge I ever had on a cruise ship was when I booked the Ultimate Family Suite for a weekend cruise on Utopia.

I had never stayed in this kind of a room because of the crazy high price that it usually has, but on a weekend cruise, the cost was only moderately crazy and I decided to give it a try.

I was worried this would be a "one and done" type room, where the novelty would wear off quite quickly.  Luckily, that was not the case.

Living room

The suite spans two decks, featuring three bedrooms, three full bathrooms, a large living room, a play area, and a dedicated movie room, providing ample space for families.

Besides being a really big suite, it also has some eye-catching features. These are the things that draw people to book this suite and I can tell you, they are as fun in person as they look in photos.

There's an in-suite slide connecting the upper children's room to the living area, a digital gaming table, a LEGO wall, and a private balcony equipped with a hot tub and climbing area for young kids.

Slide in Ultimate Family Suite

The suite is equipped with multiple gaming consoles, including a PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, and a private movie room offering diverse entertainment choices within the comfort of the suite.

Best yet, the room is a Star Class suite, so you get the very best perks and amenities, such as the services of the Royal Genie.

It was not just a fun room to stay in, but the best kind of suite to entertain. We knew many friends on this sailing, and Michael Poole, and it was fun having them visit and enjoy the suite with us.

Master bedroom

As you might imagine, the downside to this kind of a suite is the price tag. It cost $12,609.08 for the 3-night cruise, making it a significant investment. You could book three sailings on Utopia in a lower category room for that price.

The other issue is the FOMO that comes with this suite.

Matt on slide in Ultimate Family Suite

Given how much fun this suite is and all the things you can do in it, there were many times I was torn between spending more time in the cabin at the expense of missing out on all the great fun Utopia has to offer.

There was nothing like this sort of room, and I doubt I'll stay in one again.  But it was a true memory maker that my kids still talk about fondly.

Two bedroom Aquatheater suite

living room aquatheater

The final type of suite that I've tried on Utopia of the Seas is the two bedroom Aquatheater suite that's on the back of the ship.

This is usually the least expensive of the Star Class suites, and it's also arguably the best choice for a family because it offers two bedrooms and two full bathrooms. That's a rare combination.

The bathrooms are large, and compared to the loft suite, it was so nice being able to close a bedroom door and have privacy.

AquaTheater Suite balcony

There's also a generous living area, and a wraparound balcony. You won't complain about a lack of living space in this type of room.

We love the expansive wraparound balcony, and because it was December when we sailed, it was perfect weather to enjoy being outdoors.

view from aquatheater suite

You'll find panoramic ocean vistas from the balcony and a direct view of the AquaTheater. This means you can watch the Aquatheater show, Aqua80sToo, directly from our suite.

Carlos Royal Genie

Another advantage of this suite are the service of the Royal Genie.

This gets you all-inclusive dining and beverage packages, and priority reservations.

The main issue with being at the back of the ship is that the suite is a considerable distance from central amenities, which may require more walking. Also, if you're someone that goes to bed early, it would be tough with the noise from the Aquatheater show performance.

balcony on AquaTheater suite

We paid five thousands dollars less to stay in the Aquatheater suite compared to the Ultimate Family Suite, which is still expensive, but far more palatable.

Suites are always a splurge and not for the value seeker.  But there are definitely rationale to choosing one over the other when it comes to the overall cost.

If I had to pick a winner, I'd say my connecting balcony felt like the best bang for my buck

Utopia of the Seas balcony cabin

In terms of pure value, I'll almost never overlook two connecting balcony rooms.

As one of my favorite family cruise hacks of all time, it holds up on Utopia.  We get two full bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and a fraction of the price tag to get that set up in a suite.

Of course, we don't get suite benefits or amenities, but on a ship like Utopia where there is so much going on during the day and night, it's not the sort of sailing where you'd feel drawn to spend lots of time in your room.

I'd much rather save money on my cabin and then use those savings for a fun time at Perfect Day at CocoCay, like booking a beach cabana.

The complimentary Royal Caribbean entree that's worth ordering every time, according to Reddit

Matt Hochberg

When it comes to a Royal Caribbean cruise, eating is one of the best things about this sort of vacation because of all the different option you have.

Indian dishes

There are familiar dishes, crowd favorites, and a lot of international flare too to the food served around your ship. Out of the many options you can consider, there's one cuisine that I love and I'm not alone: Indian curries.

Whether in the Main Dining Room or at the Windjammer buffet, there's bound to be at least one Indian dish available, and many times there's more than one.

One select nights, the Windjammer buffet actually expands to offer an Indian themed night of choices.

These Indian curry dishes are all the rage on Reddit, with diehards littering the thread with compliments about how good it tastes and how it's been a favorite for many years among cruisers who recognized it as a lesser-known great choice. One comment even exclaims, "The Indian food on the ship was their best food they had!"

Personally, I've been ordering Indian dishes ever since my first Royal Caribbean cruise. Not only do I enjoy this cuisine, but I find it flavorful and a healthier option in some cases.

Why so many people order Indian food on their cruise

Indian curry on Mariner of the Seas

Royal Caribbean tries to offer a wide array of cuisines to satisfy the needs of their customers, and that includes dishes from all over the world.

For many years, Indian curry was useful not just because it was popular, but because it was a good vegetarian alternative option to offer.

But Indian food has become more popular over the years, and it's offered every day on the Main Dining Room menu.  There's an Indian dish, along with a vegetarian alternative listed on every day's dinner menu.

Korma

Examples include chicken curry, chicken korma, saag, butter chicken, and more.

Adding to the quality of the food is the undeniable fact there are many Indians that work on Royal Caribbean cruise ships. With such a large population onboard, the attention to detail of the food is important as many times foods served to guests are also offered to crew members.

Reddit user sastrid posted, "I used to work for Royal Caribbean, and the staff Indian food was amazing. Made for Indians, by Indians."

Royal Caribbean cruises that depart from Southampton, UK typically have even more Indian food offered because of how culturally interwoven food from from the Indian subcontinent is in the UK.

Indian night

In a different Reddit thread, the question was posed what is the best complimentary food on Royal Caribbean not to miss, and the top upvoted result was Indian food.

"Indian night in the windjammer was incredible. Every dish was super delicious and flavorful," wrote avazah.

"All of the Indian food on board is phenomenal, but the vegetarian Indian entree is exceptional even by those standards," added crazypurple621.

What you should try

Butter chicken

Assuming you've never had Indian food before, there's a few good starting points.

First and foremost, curry is not inherently spicy.  There's a common misconception that all Indian food is very spicy, but that's not the case.

In my experience, the curry served on the menu is often mild in order to be palatable to a wider audience.  There are various garnishes you can add in to make it spicier, but the food is pretty tame in terms of heat.

Curried Lamb Rogan Josh

If you've never had Indian food before, there are two dishes I would recommend trying first: Butter chicken or chicken curry.

These are two basic Indian curries that have a pleasant flavor, no vegetables, and lack any spice that might be too much for a newbie.

It's a very tasty choice that satisfies without venturing too far out of most people's comfort zone.  Both are essentially chicken in a sauce, and it pairs extremely well with the white rice that comes with it.

Indian curry in Main Dining Room

I like to eat the chicken first and then pour the rice into the remaining curry, but maybe that's just a me thing.

I also think the chicken korma is quite good, but it has a bolder flavor and more vegetables with it.

You'll find either of these curries served in the Main Dining Room or Windjammer.

Vegetable curry

Speaking of vegetables, the vegetarian curries are usually my favorite. I will absolutely have multiple servings of aloo gobi anytime they have it, which is a curry mixed with cauliflower and potatoes.

It's healthy and really tasty, with good textures.

The one curry I never, ever got a taste for was dal.

Curry on the table

Dal comes in a few forms, but it's a vegetarian side dish that's just something I never got the taste for because of its consistency, I think.

One great thing about a cruise is you can feel free to taste and try food without fear of wasting it. Royal Caribbean will encourage you to do this, and there's nothing wrong with ordering it and getting something else if it's not to your liking.

Skip the bread

Roti bread

I might get hate for this, but the one thing I never liked on Royal Caribbean was the naan or roti bread.

On land, I'd order that every time, but I've always found the Indian breads that accompany a curry tough and almost stale.

Reddit user Joatboy agrees with me, "I do find their naan to be the major weak point on those days. It's always like a pita."

You can try it yourself and see, but I usually leave it to the side.

Traffic is so bad in Miami that Royal Caribbean is offering free bus transfers

In:

Matt Hochberg

While Royal Caribbean's cruise terminal in Miami is arguably the best in terminal experience of any out there, the traffic has become a real problem.

Traffic Jam in Miami

Passengers on recent Royal Caribbean cruises departing from Miami have received emails about free bus transfers, even if they paid for them already.

Ships like Icon of the Seas or Symphony of the Seas depart from Terminal A in PortMiami, and it appears traffic is bad enough that the cruise line is offering ways to consolidate the amount of vehicles getting there.

"Since we're expecting heavier traffic than usual on debarkation day, we're now offering complimentary transfers," an email sent to passengers on Icon of the Seas sailing departing March 15.

letter

Royal Caribbean is offering these free transfers, even though people already paid for them, "Because you've already booked and paid for your return trip to the airport, we'll be refunding your reservation and rebooking you on a complimentary shuttle back to the airport on debarkation day."

A similar message was sent to guests booked on Symphony of the Seas sailing from Miami, "How would you like a transfer to the airport on us? Yeah, that’s right, ON US!"

"We’d like to offer you a complimentary transfer to either Miami International or Fort Lauderdale airport after your cruise to make sure you enjoy every moment of your time with us."

Email bus

Royal Caribbean offering free rides to the airport seems to be a push to get more passengers to use mass transportation, rather than rely on more vehicles.

These emails have been sent to passengers on specific sailings close to the departure date, so there's no way to know exactly if it will be offered on future sailings as well.

"Crazy traffic"

Traffic in PortMiami

When you talk to cruisers, they see the issue Royal Caribbean appears to be addressing.

The cruise terminals in Miami aren't in the city, but rather located on Dodge Island. This is inbetween Downtown Miami and South Beach, and it's a small piece of land where cruise ships and cargo ships go to dock.

"Just got on Independence in Miami and can attest to the crazy traffic," wrote reddit user happyinbentonville.

Miami terminals

Royal Caribbean offers cruises out of different terminals in Miami, but Terminal A is the one used for its big ships, like Icon.

These are some of the biggest cruise ships in the world, with Icon of the Seas alone able to handle up to 7,000 passengers when the ship is totally maxed out on capacity.

Ride share services are a very popular way to get to or from the cruise terminal, but they add much more traffic.

Add to that a lot of cruise ships, and it's a recipe for a swath of people.

Ships docked in Miami

On February 8, a record-breaking 10 cruise ships were docked in Miami on a single day, with close to 68,000 passengers on board.

When you add a lot of cars on a single road to get in and out of Terminal A, it's a recipe for traffic.

"The drive was 5 miles but took 45 min with traffic," posted Rich Klepacz on Facebook.

Symphony of the Seas in Miami

Brian Hill posted, "The traffic flow to the ships is ridiculous! I go quite often and have spent over an hour getting round to pick up people I can see waving to me!"

Liz Romeo added, "That is the main reason I don’t like cruising out of Miami."

Options for getting in and out of Miami

Terminal A

Passengers have a few options for getting home after their cruise from Miami.

Bus service is offered to the major airports nearby, and can be purchased through Royal Caribbean or on your own.

It's been my experience you can hop on a bus to go to the airport on the spot when leaving the cruise terminal, as there are people standing outside the terminal with signs advertising bus options.

Dodge Island

Ride share services and taxis are also available, with the taxis stationed near the exit of the terminal, while ride shares are closer to the luggage drop off areas.

You could park your own car in the parking garage, which has a daily fee to park there.

Finally, you could rely on someone picking you up.

The rules for adding people to your Royal Caribbean cruise

You have a Royal Caribbean cruise booked, but what if you want to add someone to your reservation?

Harmony of the Seas interior cabin

It's fairly common to have travel plans change, especially when trying to plan a vacation many months in advance.

Royal Caribbean cruise fares are priced out per person, and each person has their own cost within any cabin.  Sometimes a Kids Sail Free deal can negate the fare for children, but there are restrictions in place too.

If you want to add someone to your cruise, the ability to do so and associated cost truly depend on a few different conditions. Sometimes, it's not possible and other times it may incur hefty costs.

How to add additional people to your Royal Caribbean cabin

In order to add someone to your cabin, there are a few prerequisites:

  • The change must be made before the ship's manifest is finalized (usually about 72 hours before the cruise begins)
  • The cabin must be designated as being able to accommodate the total capacity of your party
  • There must be enough life boat spaces for the new person

Changes are allowed up until a few days before a cruise begins, but you may find other issues preventing it from going forward with the change.

Couch

Each Royal Caribbean cabin has a maximum capacity. Regardless if you think you could fit that person into the room, it's impossible to add additional people beyond that particular cabin's capacity.

The number of passengers allowed in a room is linked to the number of seats in life rafts and muster stations.

As an example, if you originally booked an oceanview balcony cabin designed for two people but want to add a third person, you'd have to upgrade to a different category oceanview balcony cabin that can accommodate three people.

Whether your cabin can handle the additional person or not, you're going to incur a new cost.  Often, that cost can be prohibitively expensive.

When you make a change to a reservation and add someone, you will have to pay the prevailing rate and not the rate you booked everyone else at originally.

Even if you're making the change sufficiently before the cruise begins and you're okay with the price change, it may not be possible to add someone to a reservation because of maritime law.

Muster station

If the lifeboat capacity for your muster station is full, Royal Caribbean would not allow you to add that extra person. Regulations related to safety at sea is quite strict, and cruise ships cannot load in more people than can be safely handled in case of an emergency.

Assuming there's no issues with any of these restrictions, then you can add the extra person to your reservation.

You would have to pay for the extra person's deposit and cruise fare, as well as port fees and taxes.

Aerial view

The simplest thing to do is call Royal Caribbean or your travel agent and ask them if it's possible and what the cost would be.

You'll need to call Royal Caribbean or your travel agent to make this sort of a change.  It cannot be done online.

Swapping people is very easy

Royal Caribbean

If you just want to change one person for another, then this is quite easy.

You can always name swap people without any change fees or extra costs as long as it's done before the ship's manifest is submitted and at least one person from the original reservation remains on the booking.

You just have to have your travel agent make the name change, and it's usually quite an easy task.

Usually extra passengers cost less overall

Independence of the Seas cabins hallway

One silver lining to adding extra passengers is they probably won't cost as much as you did to book.

Royal Caribbean's cruise fares are based on double occupancy, and the bulk of the cost is centered around the first two passengers in a cabin.

Often the price for third, fourth, or more people in the same cabin drops quite a lot.

Balcony room on Wonder of the Seas

The catch is if you change cabins.

If you booked a cabin for two people and now want to add a third person to your room, you'd have to upgrade your cabin to a higher category that can accommodate three people.

Cabins for two are plentiful and the most common type of cabin on the ship.  There are less cabins for three people, and because they sell out faster, prices tend to be higher.

Voyager of the Seas oceanview cabin

In fact, this is why sometimes an inside cabin for three people costs more than a balcony cabin for two people.  Revenue management software automatically adjusts rates based on supply and demand principles.

When many interior cabins are booked because demand is high, it's quite common to see rates increase to the point they are equal to or more than ocean view and sometimes even balcony rates.

Adding people if you bid for a cabin upgrade

Let's assume you win a bid to upgrade your cabin to a lovely larger cruise ship cabin with the RoyalUp program.  Could you add an additional guest since you now have more space?

The good news is you can add people to your bigger room after winning a RoyalUp bid, but it's considered a reprice when adding people so it would be at the prevailing room rate.

Moreover, if you had another cabin booked prior to the bid, you can't just combine your two bookings into the new one you got with the upgrade.

Of course, the people booked in the second room could remain in that room "on paper", but sleep and enjoy the nicer room with you.

Alternatives to adding someone to your cabin

Connecting door

Besides trying to add someone to your room, there are other options you could explore.

Booking an additional room is one option, and depending on prevailing rates and how many unsold cabins there are left, this could be feasible.

Even if you're trying to add a minor, they're allowed in a room by themselves if that room is adjacent or connecting to the parent's room.

If not, this might be a good opportunity to bring granny or another adult since the price for one person or two people in a standard cabin is going to be about the same price because of the single supplement fee charged to solo cruisers.

Infinite Grand Suite on Icon of the Seas

Another idea is to simply upgrade everyone to a suite.

Even after final payment date, Royal Caribbean is usually good about allowing you to spend more money and move up to a higher cost cabin.

Suites often have the highest capacity of any single cabin. Of course, a suite won't be cheap, especially if you're trying to do this closer to your sail date. Plus, suites tend to sell out first.

After ‘absolutely horrifying’ inspection, Royal Caribbean makes 57 fixes to its cruise ship

After a Royal Caribbean ship nearly failed its health inspection, the cruise line has made big changes to remedy the problems.

Symphony of the Seas

Symphony of the Seas had its regular health inspection conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), scoring just one point above "unsatisfactory."

The inspection took place in early February and yielded over 50 violations that raised serious concerns about the ship's hygiene and safety protocols.

These ranged from crew members handling ice with open wounds on their forearms to improper food storage and failing to properly report children in the youth programs with present GI symptoms.

Symphony-Central-Park-Waterslides

Spencer Aronfeld, known on TikTok as @cruiseshiplawyer, said that it typically costs cruise lines around $65,000 to quickly correct all the violations of a nearly-failing report.

"The score was an 86, which is barely satisfactory. One point less, which is an 85, would have been an unsatisfactory evaluation, which probably would have caused them to have to cancel the cruise," he explained.

Roughly a month after the inspection, a corrective report for the deficiencies was released, which is required by the CDC's Vessel Sanitation Program. However, the VSP can't verify that the deficiencies have been corrected until after conducting the next vessel inspection or re-inspection.

The 8-page document details what Royal Caribbean did to correct the violations and ensure that Symphony of the Seas meets the necessary health and safety standards moving forward.

Symphony of the Seas in Labadee

In other words, it serves as a crucial step to maintain trust with loyal passengers that Royal Caribbean strives to uphold the safety and well-being of everyone aboard their fleet of ships.

The corrective report details what Royal Caribbean did to remedy 57 violations found by CDC inspectors

Some of the worst violations include improper food storage.

For example, at Johnny Rockets, a metal bin used for disposing of raw hamburger plastic and paper packing was on the front preparation counter and was in contact with the burger topping area.

Before leaving Johnny Rockets, the inspector noticed what appeared to be blood splatter on the preparation counter, too.

SOTS-Corrective-Report-2

In the corrective report, Royal Caribbean claims the, "[standard operating procedure] has been modified and Burgers are unwrapped from plastic and paper packaging before placing them in [a] hotel pan to avoid any cross contamination. Team has been retrained with new SOP."

The initial report also revealed that 25 raw, shelled eggs were stored in a plastic bag in a crew cabinet next to a manager's desk. An unopened bag of potato chips and an open bottle of hot sauce were stored below the raw eggs in the same cabinet.

When the crew was asked about the eggs, the inspector discovered they had been brought into the upholstery office the day before. The eggs, chips, and hot sauce were all taken to the incinerator room and discarded.

According to the corrective report, "Inspections were conducted of Upholstery, Carpenter and Repair workshop areas. Management met with the Division using these areas, [and] reminded them regarding food safety and no food items to be brought to the workshops. Unannounced inspections to continue [on] a regular basis."

Another violation revealed that a crew member accessing an ice machine's technical department in the Solarium had open and scabbed sores on his forearm.

Like the inspector, Royal Caribbean also advised all crew members to protect wounds with bandages before working on any food-grade equipment and before entering food areas.

Windjammer buffet

Still, perhaps one of the most shocking violations was the improper medical identification of acute gastroenteritis cases in the youth clubs.

In January 2025, five out of eleven vomiting and diarrhea incidents reported in the children's activity center weren't appropriately handed. As such, symptomatic children weren't isolated because they were not assessed or incorrectly assessed for meeting acute gastroenteritis.

For example, around 9:20pm on Jan. 9, Adventure Ocean reported that a 9-year-old child had vomited. Less than two hours later, housekeeping reported a vomiting incident on the bed for the same child.

SOTS-Corrective-Report-1

The parents called the medical center around midnight to report multiple episodes of vomiting. They finally brought their child to the medical center around 3:10pm on Jan. 10 for abdominal cramps. The medical notes for the visit stated that the "child has had several episodes of vomiting, fever, and abdominal pain."

This case met the acute gastroenteritis reporting definition, but the child wasn't isolated, and the case wasn't included on the acute gastroenteritis log.

To remedy the violation, Royal Caribbean revised the standard operating procedure for reporting PVI/PFI incidents. Plus, they conducted training sessions with the medical team about acute gastroenteritis knowledge, so they can properly identify and report cases following the criteria as per the VSP manual.

kids zone

Not only that but in the future, the medical team "will reach out to each PVI/PFI case by calling them twice. If they are unable to make contact, they will [hand the case] over to the security team and guest [relations] to get in touch with the person involved in the incident ASAP."

Speaking of illnesses, while onboard, the CDC inspection team noticed that the child activity crew didn't follow their illness exclusion policy, allowing known symptomatic children into the activity center.

Around noon on Jan. 21, Adventure Ocean reported a diarrhea incident for a 3-year-old child. The activity center reported another incident for the same kid around 8:00pm the same evening, though they indicated that it was "code brown," or non-GI related.

Medical center sign

The medical team didn't follow up with the parents to assess for isolation because a non-medical crew member stated it wasn't related to acute gastroenteritis.

The corrective report states, "Every PVI and PFI in Adventure Ocean will be closely monitored. The team has been retrained and coached, and we will be following these steps: Once a PVI or PFI incident occurs in Adventure Ocean, the AO staff will report the incident to the dispatcher and the medical team will be advised of the incident with an additional call to the nurse on duty, providing information about the child."

"The staff will inform the AOM to monitor the incident, adding it to the PVI/PFI log and noting in the system that the child may not return until cleared by the medical team...The medical team will do the evaluation and diagnosis of the child, following up on the incident, and communicating further with AO once the child has been cleared to return to Adventure."

Icon Adventure Ocean Sign

Other violations, including soiled food service items, broken soap dispensers, and areas without written symptom guidance posted were easily remedied by the ship's team.

For example, at the child activity center, an open play area for parents to play with their young children did not have written symptom guidance posted. As such, a sign was printed, laminated, and placed in the area.

Additionally, the soap dispenser in one of the men's restrooms wasn't mounted to the bulkhead, making it difficult to operate.

SOTS-Corrective-Report-3

Corrective action began immediately by the plumping team. Plus, crew members were coached about the importance of hand washing stations always being properly equipped and available.

A pool/hot tub net had also been stored in one of the showers, making it inaccessible for guests during the 1.5 hours the main pool had been open.

Consequently, crew members received training on net storage, ensuring that the shower remains always accessible to guests.

Try these 9 tricks for better sleep on a cruise ship

In:

Matt Hochberg

I can tackle the day so much better if I've had a good night's sleep, but a being on a cruise vacation means a different bed and sleeping conditions.

Solarium Suite bedroom

I've found I sleep pretty well on cruise ships overall, but I've had to tweak a few things to make it more conducive for a good night's rest.  I think that's partly because I want to adapt my cabin to how I like to sleep at home.

Getting proper rest is important to just about anyone, and you shouldn't have to settle for poor sleep simply because you're not at home. I think a lot of people view vacation as an opportunity to relax and rest up with plenty of sleep.

As your ship moves through the ocean in a bed you're not used to, it can be an adjustment to acclimating to it all.

I wanted to share the tips and tricks for sleeping better on a cruise that have worked for me and our readers.

Make the room colder

Temperature control in the Spacious Infinite Central Park Balcony Cabin on Icon of the Seas

If you ask my wife, I keep our cabin like a freezer while we cruise.  That's partly because I sleep so much better when it's cold in my room.

Your stateroom will have air conditioning controls, and I'd recommend turning the air conditioner down so it's as cold as you're comfortable with a few hours before you go to sleep.

This is especially important in the summer when the Caribbean sun is stronger and can really heat up your cabin, even if the balcony door is closed.

Cabin on Icon of the Seas

A good strategy is to make the room as cold as you can before you leave for dinner so there's sufficient time for it to cool down.

You should also draw the curtains to help darken the room so it can cool down even faster.

Mattress topper

Bed with TV

Did you know you can make your bed even softer by asking for a mattress topper?

I prefer a firm mattress, but plenty of others like their beds to feel much softer.  If you're someone like that, then there's an option to help.

You can ask your stateroom attendant for a mattress topper as soon as you meet them on the first day of the cruise.

Cruise-Bed-Cabin-Hack-Mattress-Topper-1

Depending on the ship, they'll either have an actual mattress pad to insert below the sheet or a comforter that does the same thing.

I'd recommend asking for one as early as you can, because there's a limited supply available.

Stick to your sleep routine from home

Baby Icon Sleeping

There's so much excitement on a cruise, but I find when our kids were younger, it was important to keep them on their schedule.

While it's probably impossible to adhere to the exact schedule, the closer you can keep it, the better overall.

It's a good idea with young kids to keep them doing the usual things at as close to the normal times as possible, including taking a shower, having a glass of milk, or reading in bed.

Don't be shy about asking for what you need

In addition to the mattress topper request, you should ask if you need other extras in your room to help you sleep.

If you need extra pillows or comforters, your stateroom attendant can get them for you.

Your bed will have a few extra pillows to begin with, but don't assume what's in the room is all you're entitled to.

A white noise machine works well too

White noise machine

A lot of people are used to a certain amount of noise while they sleep, whether it's the hum of an air conditioner, television on, or something else.

You could buy a small white noise machine to bring with you, or download an app for your phone to simulate the same thing. Our readers have recommended “bedtime fan” from App Store.

If you prefer a device, try the LectroFan white noise machine. It's powered by USB, so there's no issue with it being confiscated. (This link contains an affiliate link, which costs you absolutely nothing extra to use while supporting this site).

Pack ear plugs

Ear plugs

While a little white noise is good, loud noises really make it difficult to sleep.

There are all sort of sounds inside your cabin and outside that could keep you awake, such as snoring, the ship creaking, hangers clanging, or loud passengers.

I'd recommend buying a pack of disposable ear plugs to have, just in case.

The Flents Foam Ear Plugs fit well, muffle noise, but you'll still be able to hear your alarm go off in the morning. (This link contains an affiliate link, which costs you absolutely nothing extra to use while supporting this site).

Don't pick a cabin near a public venue

Wonder-Inside-Cabin-9116-Hallway-Forward

You can avoid a lot of noise issues that could disturb your sleep simply by picking the right room.

Tried-and-true cruise advice is to pick a cabin that is one deck above and below other cabins, and not a public space.

Picking a room that's below the pool deck, or above a lounge could result in a lot of unwanted noise bleed.

All you need to do is consult a deck map when choosing a room, and double check that there's other cabins one deck above and below the cabin you're considering booking.

Book an inside stateroom

Wonder-Inside-Cabin-1

People that cruise a lot swear the best room to sleep in is an inside cabin with no windows.

Because interior rooms have no natural light, it can get pitch black once the lights are off.

Living area

This makes it ideal for sleeping if you're sensitive to light in the morning.  As an added bonus, it won't get hot in there either because of heat coming from the sun!

Plus, an inside room will cost a lot less than a balcony cabin.

Buy a USB fan

Amazon Fan

One more thing you could buy to bring with you is a fan.

My wife loves to sleep with the sound a fan creating white noise at night. Plus, the fan cools the air.

You'll want to get a USB or battery operated fan, and not one that plugs into the wall.

Travel fan

Your ship will have a limited supply of complimentary fans to use if you were to ask your stateroom attendant, but there are very few of them.  Bringing your own assures you that you'll have one.

Royal Caribbean is bringing back a luggage perk its customers loved

In:

It could be getting a little bit easier getting your luggage off a cruise ship and onto your flight home.

Adventure of the Seas departing Port Canaveral

Guests on an upcoming cruise received a letter informing them that the luggage assistance program that's been missing for over five years is on its way back.

Royal Caribbean calls it Luggage Valet, and it's an easier way to get bags from ship to airport on the final morning of the cruise.

The service was offered for years, but was cut a while back for sailings from Florida.  It's now being offered again on 7 night sailings or longer sailing from select ports.

Luggage Valet letter

"Royal Caribbean is proud to offer airline check-in at sea. Luggage Valet provides the unique opportunity to check in for your flight at sea and allow your bags to be collected, cleared, and sent on to your final destination, while you enjoy the comfort and ease of hands-free travel."

This means you can enjoy your last morning on board without worrying about your bags—just disembark and head to the airport.

How the service works

Luggage valet

On all cruises, you can leave your luggage outside your stateroom on the last morning of the cruise to be collected by crew members and subsequently brought to the cruise terminal for pickup.

Luggage Valet offers an easier option for those flying home on select airlines.

You have to enroll in the optional program by filling out a form and returning it to the Guest Services Desk no later than day 3 of the cruise. If you are a Suite, Pinnacle, Diamond Plus, or Diamond guest with access to the Concierge service, you can return the form to the Concierge at either the Crown Lounge on Deck 4 or the Suite Lounge on Deck 17 by day 3 of the cruise.

Luggage in the terminal waiting to be picked up

This service can only be purchased onboard the ship, and cannot be pre-booked before the cruise begins.

In your stateroom you'll get your luggage tags delivered to your cabin to affix to your luggage.

Bags are collected the night before the cruise ends, but passengers don't pick up the bags in the terminal. Rather, the bags are brought to the airport and checked onto your flight.

Fort Lauderdale airport

With this service, you wouldn't see your bags until you land at your home airport and collect your bags from baggage claim.

It's available only at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) or Miami International Airport (MIA).

Guests departing from FLL must have flights that depart between 11:30 AM and 11:59 PM on the day of disembarkation.

Guests departing from MIA must have flights that depart between 2:00 PM and 11:59 PM on the day of disembarkation.

How much it costs

Luggage in hallway

Luggage valet costs $29 per guest plus applicable airline baggage fees.

The cost is charged to your Royal Caribbean onboard account.

Here is a list of which airlines participate in Luggage Valet:

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) – Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines.

Miami International Airport (MIA) – Delta Airlines, United Airlines, JetBlue Airlines, Southwest Airlines.

Still offered for Alaska cruises too

Downtown Seattle

While the letter distributed to guests this week doesn't include Alaska, it appears it's still offered in Seattle too.

The Port of Seattle website lists Royal Caribbean as a participating partner in its Port Valet program, which is quite similar to Luggage Valet.

This service is offered by the Port of Seattle, and you can sign up online before the cruise begins, or once onboard.  The best part? It's complimentary (excluding any airline baggage fees).

Quantum-Check-in-Seattle-2

Carnival, Celebrity, Holland America, Norwegian, Princess, and Royal Caribbean passengers can take advantage of it.

You can use Port Valet if you are flying with these participating airlines: Alaska, American, Delta, Horizon, JetBlue, Southwest, or United.

Why you should use Luggage Valet

Luggage in house

The appeal of Luggage Valet is to offer an even easier way to get off your ship and on your way home.

If you've ever dealt with disembarking your ship on the final morning with luggage in hand, it can be a bit of a hassle.  This is especially true with young children and trying to juggle them and your bags.

With Luggage Valet, you don't have any big bags to contend with, and Royal Caribbean thinks that offers less hassle and a more enjoyable experience overall.

Airplane in airport

Plus, you can totally skip the typically long lines to check luggage at the airport.

Of course there is an extra cost, so it adds to the overall vacation budget.  But the convenience of having your bags taken off the ship and to your flight is lovely option.

A woman went overboard from the Royal Caribbean ship during an 80's nostalgia cruise this week.

The woman has been identified as Kimberly Burch, fiancée of Faster Pussycat singer Taime Downe.

Multiple reports on social media from passengers on Explorer of the Seas were posted online. The incident happened around 11 p.m. on the first day of the sailing.

Inside cabins are usually the cheapest room on the ship, but what's it like in one on a brand new ship?

To save money, Elizabeth tried an inside room on Wonder of the Seas and even went as far as to pick a guarantee room to get a better deal.

The cost was $2,292.10, but probably could have gotten even a better price had it been booked further in advance.

Royal Caribbean is starting a new restaurant trend (and we love it)

You'll find a new evolution of restaurants on Royal Caribbean's newest ships.

Known as "eatertainment", these restaurants go beyond the traditional specialty restaurant with making it far more immersive.

You should expect more restaurants delving into this hot trend of going beyond a restaurant by offering experiential dining.

What every aspect of a trip on Wonder of the Seas cruise costs

Wonder of the Seas docked in St. Thomas

After sailing on Wonder of the Seas for a week, the total cost of this vacation came out more than $4,000.

From the cruise fare to the pre-cruise hotel, drinks onboard, and shore excursions, the total cost of a cruise adds up quickly.

It wasn't the cheapest vacation, but it was worth every penny!
