The biggest cruise ship in the world made a pit stop today in The Bahamas.

Wonder of the Seas is Royal Caribbean's fifth Oasis Class cruise ship and it visited the cruise line's private island of Perfect Day at CocoCay on Thursday.

Freedom of the Seas was already at the island for the day, leaving passengers with the first opportunity for the public to see this new ship up close.

The 5,734-passenger Wonder of the Seas is wrapping up final preparations for her first sailing, which begins next week.

Wonder of the Seas will begin with 7-night Caribbean cruises from Fort Lauderdale in March and April before offering a transatlantic sailing to switch to Mediterranean cruises from Barcelona and Rome (Civitavecchia) beginning in May 2022.

The shop has 8 neighborhoods, as well as other new features such as the Wonder Playscape outdoor interactive play area, Mason Jar Southern-themed restaurant, and The Vue seaside bar.

Like other Oasis Class ships, Wonder of the Seas will also feature favorites such as the Ultimate Abyss slide, FlowRider surfing simulator, and Central Park neighborhood.

Something else that separates Wonder from her Oasis Class sisters is the addition of the Suite Neighborhood, which has an expansive area for suite guests that includes an exclusive sun deck, plunge pool, bar, Coastal Kitchen restaurant and private lounge.

In case you're wondering, Wonder of the Seas is about 8,000 tons larger than Symphony of the Seas, which makes her slightly larger.

With less than two weeks until her first sailing, Wonder of the Seas will debut with cruises from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in March and April.

Port Everglades welcomed the massive new cruise ship as she pulled into port on Sunday.

The new ship arrived in the evening, with her first sailings beginning March 4, 2022.

Wonder of the Seas measures 1,188 feet and has a gross tonnage of 236,857.  At double occupancy, she can handle 5,734 passengers along with 2,300 crew members.

Royal Caribbean released new photos of the ship, taken from the air to show off the splendor of this new ship.

Entertainment on Wonder of the Seas

Royal Caribbean revealed which shows passengers can look forward to seeing on Wonder of the Seas.

Three premier production shows have been announced, with a fourth show to debut later this year.

While Wonder of the Seas does not have a Broadway show like other Oasis Class ships, she does have a number of original performances.

Here's a look at each of the shows announced for Wonder of the Seas.

inTENse

Set in the Aquatheater, inTENse features an all-female cast performing aerial and diving acrobatics.

In this new show, expect diving, slacklining feats, tumbling, aerial acrobatics and more, punctuated by inspiring lighting and sound.

365: The Seasons on Ice

The ice skating show in Studio B will tell the story of the earth’s changing seasons.

"Performers will embody the flow of time as their characters and their every move are accentuated by innovative projection mapping, colorful lighting and images, and sound, which transform the venue from one season to the next."

Voices: An Intimate Performance on a Grand Scale

In the Royal Theater, you will find a new type of show for Royal Caribbean that focuses on the power of live performances.

The Royal Theater’s bespoke show, featuring a wondrous medley of music, singing and dancing, will underscore the unifying power of performance art.

Effectors II: Crash ‘n’ Burn

Coming later in 2022, Royal Caribbean will deliver the sequel to its super hero inspired musical, Effectors II: Crash ‘n’ Burn.

Effectors first debuted on Spectrum of the Seas & Odyssey of the Seas, and is about a group of superheroes with awesome abilities based entirely on creativity. 

Royal Caribbean says the latest installment of The Effectors is, "bigger and bolder, featuring trailblazing applications of autonomous technology pioneered by Royal Caribbean."

Live music

In addition to the production shows, Wonder of the Seas will offer a variety of live music around the ship.

• Live Caribbean music and DJs poolside at The Lime & Coconut
• Music Hall offers live performances every night with a tribute band, jazz ensemble, or Royal Caribbean house band.
• The Stowaway Piano roving pianoplayer plays their own twist on classic tunes wherever the piano can roll.
• Boleros features a six-piece band playing salsa, cumbia, merengue, samba and more.
• The English pub, Cask & Clipper, serves acoustic performances every night.
• Piano performers in the signature Schooner Bar.

Ready to sail in 2022

Her inaugural sailing will take place on March 4, 2022 from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  She will sail to the Caribbean from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale between March and April 2022. The 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries include visits to Perfect Day at CocoCay and Nassau, The Bahamas; Roatan, Honduras; and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Starting in May, Wonder heads to Europe to offer 7-night Western Mediterranean cruises will visit ports such as Naples and Florence, Italy; Palma de Mallorca, Spain; and Provence, France.

After her summer season, Wonder returns to Florida to offer year-round sailings in November 2022, when she sails from Port Canaveral. Destinations range from Perfect Day at CocoCay and Philipsburg, St. Maarten, to Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas; and Cozumel, Mexico.

Coast Guard investigating SpaceX launch scrub due to Harmony of the Seas

A SpaceX cruise ship attempt to launch a rocket last weekend was cancelled due to Harmony of the Seas veering into the "exclusion zone", and now the United States Coast Guard is involved.

Prior to any SpaceX launch, there is an exclusion zone established so that no planes, ships, etc are able to enter the space, which adjoins against the second busiest cruise and shipping port in the country at Port Canaveral.

Harmony of the Seas entered that zone, which cancelled the launch. SpaceX was able to launch the rocket the next day.

The Falcon 9 rocket was carrying an Italian satellite into orbit

U.S. Coast Guard spokesperson David Micallef confirmed that the Coast Guard will look into what happened, "Our primary concern is the safety of mariners at sea, and we will continue to work with our federal, state, and local port partners to ensure safe and navigable waterways."

Singapore cancels two Quantum of the Seas cruises due to Covid-19

Two sailings on Quantum of the Seas from Singapore had to be cancelled due to Covid-19 cases among the crew.

According to the cruise line, 0.6% of the crew tested positive for Covid-19, and so the sailings were cancelled "in an abundance of caution."

The crew members that tested positive were immediately isolated. Close contacts were also quarantined and tested.

According to the Singapore Cruise Society, the affected sailings were the January 31, 2022 and February 3, 2022

The ship will under go a deep cleaning and disinfection during her time off.

Wonder of the Seas arrives in Cyprus

The newest and largest cruise ship in the world made a brief stop in Cyprus as it prepares to begin cruises.

Wonder of the Seas arrived in Limassol, Cyprus on January 31st in order to bring more crew members onboard.

Cyprus' Transport Minister Yiannis Karousos welcomed the ship upon her arrival, "The benefits for our economy and tourism are huge, when leading shipping companies dock in Cyprus. We welcome to the Port of Limassol the largest cruise ship in the world, the Wonder of the Seas of Royal Caribbean."

Wonder is now headed to Cadiz, Spain as a final stop before her transatlantic crossing to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The first sailing of Wonder of the Seas will be March 4, 2022.

Labadee sign painted

Labadee re-opened last week, and the sign that spells out the private destination's name has been repainted.

Prior to the pandemic, the letters had a colorful look to them, against a blue background.

Royal Caribbean repainted the letters with a green background and a white floral motif.

Royal Caribbean also shared new aerial photos of Labadee.

Royal Caribbean trademarks "Accessory Place"

In January, Royal Caribbean Group trademarked the phrase "Accessory Place".

According to the paperwork filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the trademark is intended to cover the category of retail store services featuring jewelry.

Wonder of the Seas is 236,857 gross tons, whereas Symphony comes in at 228,081.

Now that we know Wonder of the Seas is the biggest cruise ship in the world, how big is she exactly?

The new ship will be 1,188 feet long and 210 feet wide.

Wonder has a capacity of 5,734 passengers at double occupancy.

There are 18 decks and 2,867 staterooms to choose from, including interiors, balcony rooms, and suites.

An interesting fact about Wonder of the Seas is that there will actually be less suites on Wonder of the Seas than other Oasis Class ships. 

Why are there less suites? In order to make room for the new Suite Neighborhood, the amount of suites had to be cut back so there could be room for it all.

What is the Broadway show on Wonder of the Seas?

Royal Caribbean has not yet announced the entertainment lineup for Wonder of the Seas.

In fact, it is not yet clear if there will be a Broadway show onboard Wonder of the Seas, although other Oasis Class ships have all had Broadway shows onboard.

When will Wonder of the Seas be available in Royal Caribbean's app?

Yes, but it is not clear when app support will become available for Wonder of the Seas.

Without question, Wonder of the Seas will have app support before her first sailing.  However, Royal Caribbean has yet to enable Wonder in the app, which also means the ability to check-in for the cruise remains unavailable.

Royal Caribbean has not yet announced the ceremonial role of the ship's godmother.

It is likely the godmother will be revealed closer to the official ship's christening, which has also not been announced yet.

What is the Vue?

A new feature for any Oasis Class ship is the Vue, which is a new cantilevered bar.

Royal Caribbean says the Vue will offer panoramic ocean views by day and a colorful mosaic canopy overhead by night.

The Vue is located on Deck 15 forward in the Solarium, and is where you would find the cantilevered hot tubs on other Oasis Class ships.

How many unique neighborhoods does Wonder of the Seas have?

Wonder of the Seas is the first Oasis Class ship to have an eighth neighborhood, with the addition of the Suite Neighborhood.

Located midship across decks 16, 17, and 18, the new Suite Neighborhood wraps around the funnel.

Suite guests will have a private sun deck on deck 18 to enjoy at their leisure, which offers a view of the back of the ship.  There are also loungers and various seating options near an exclusive plunge pool and bar.

Like all Oasis Class ships, suite guests also can dine at Coastal Kitchen for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (Junior Suite passengers can only dine at Coastal Kitchen for dinner). Coastal Kitchen is a complimentary restaurant for suite guests that offers a Mediterranean-Californian fusion menu that changes daily.

The newest and largest cruise ship in the world is officially part of Royal Caribbean's fleet.

Wonder of the Seas was delivered to Royal Caribbean on Thursday, following three years of construction.

Shipyard builder Chantiers de l’Atlantique joined Royal Caribbean executives in a  traditional flag-changing ceremony in Marseille, France.

Welcoming Wonder to the Royal Caribbean family was Royal Caribbean Group Chairman Richard Fain, Royal Caribbean Group President and CEO Jason Liberty, Royal Caribbean International President and CEO Michael Bayley, and Laurent Castaing, General Manager, Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, France.

Royal Caribbean Group CEO Jason Liberty talked about the addition of Wonder of the fleet, "Wonder of the Seas will energize cruising in a bolder and bigger way. Adding this ship to our already best-in-class fleet elevates the company in continuing to lead the industry with new features and innovation."

"This is one more way that we’re delivering world-class and memorable vacations, responsibly, to guests around the world."

Royal Caribbean International President and CEO Michael Bayley was equally excited, "Taking delivery of Wonder of the Seas is the culmination of 30 months of ingenuity and partnership across more than 2,000 committed crew members and workers who are among the best at what they do."

New features on Wonder of the Seas

Wonder of the Seas may be the fifth Oasis Class cruise ship, but she is certainly not a carbon copy of her sister vessels.

Royal Caribbean designed the ship to incorporate a number of changes and new additions that were previously not seen on other Oasis Class ships.

Suite Neighborhood – The new, eighth neighborhood offers Royal Suite Class guests an elevated Suite Sun Deck in a new location, complete with a plunge pool, bar and plenty of loungers and nooks to kick back; along with favorites such as Coastal Kitchen, the private restaurant; the Suite Lounge, and the largest Ultimate Family Suite yet to host a family of 10.

The Mason Jar Southern Restaurant & Bar – The new hotspot serves up southern staples and new twists on classics for brunch, dinner and in the late night, including savory johnnycakes, southern fried chicken, crab beignets, and shrimp and grits. Completing the experience is live country music, farmhouse-style decor, a collection of American whiskeys and spiked shakes.

Wonder Playscape – The underwater-themed play area for kids is a whole new adventure with slides, climbing walls, games, an interactive mural activated by touch and imaginative puzzles.

The Vue Bar – The happiest of happy hours can be found at the new cantilevered bar that offers panoramic ocean views by day, and after sunset, it shines bright with a colorful mosaic canopy.

Royal Caribbean is about to take ownership of its newest cruise ship.

Wonder of the Seas is the fifth Oasis Class cruise ship, and has been in Marseille, France since November 2021 to receive her final touches.

It now appears Royal Caribbean will take delivery of Wonder from the builder.

Royal Caribbean's Senior Vice President of Entertainment, Nick Weir, tweeted on Wednesday the new ship will be delivered on January 27.

Senior Vice President of Entertainment for Royal Caribbean International, Nick Weir, shared a video clip of Wonder of the Seas in Marseille, France.

Mr. Weir recently flew to France to do work on the ship, and posted the clip as his plane went overhead the new ship.

At 236,857 gross tons, Wonder of the Seas is the fifth Oasis Class cruise ship and takes the title from Symphony of the Seas as the biggest in the world.

Wonder of the Seas is 1,188 feet in length and has a maximum passenger capacity of 6,988 passengers, in addition to 2,300 crew.

In fact, Wonder has 100 cabins more than Symphony of the Seas.

Not only is Wonder of the Seas bigger than her sister Oasis Class ships, she has an extra neighborhood onboard dedicated just to suite guests.

The eighth neighborhood offers Royal Suite Class guests private spaces, such as an exclusive deck with its own pool, bar and plenty of sun loungers, as well as nooks for lounging.

In case you're wondering, Wonder of the Seas is not the last Oasis Class ship.

A sixth Oasis Class ship that is yet unnamed is expected to have her inaugural cruise in the second quarter 2024.

Guests will be able to sample a variety of classic American food for brunch, dinner, and late-night.

Brunch favorites range from savory johnnycakes topped with barbeque pulled pork to the Sweet-Tooth Cinnamon Roll. At suppertime, highlights include fried green tomatoes, authentic southern fried chicken, crab beignets served with lump crab dip, and shrimp and grits. And for a sweet ending, there’s everything from traditional pies to spiked floats and shakes. 

The bar menu has also been sourced from the southland, with more than a dozen American whiskeys and a lineup of southern libations, such as the classic mint julep dusted tableside with powdered sugar and the Mississippi Moonlight – made with blackberry moonshine, blackberries and lemonade, and served in a chilled mason jar.

Wonder of the Seas debut

Wonder of the Seas will set sail in March 2022 from Fort Lauderdale, Florida and offer cruises in March and April 2022 before moving to Europe.

She will then sail from Barcelona, Spain and Rome between April and October 2022.

Wonder of the Seas will return to Port Canaveral, Florida beginning in November, where she will be based year-round.

One of the many new amenities coming to Royal Caribbean's newest cruise ship will be the cruise line's first southern American food restaurant.

Wonder of the Seas will feature a new restaurant, known as The Mason Jar.

According to Royal Caribbean, The Mason Jar is all about food from the southern part of the United States.

Mason Jar was one of the trademarks Royal Caribbean filed back in October 2021 that seemed to point to a new dining concept based on Southern food.

In a newsletter update to travel agents, Royal Caribbean confirmed the existence of this new restaurant concept, "In the South, food is meant to soothe the soul."

"Enter The Mason Jar, reinventing Low Country classics, Bayou staples, and bold BBQ."

Royal Caribbean International President and CEO Michael Bayley also confirmed the news via his Facebook page.

The new restaurant will offer comfort food, such as creole-style Lobster ’n Crawfish Gumbo and Gran’s Fried Chicken.

There will also be a brunch menu that offers breakfast dishes, such as Sweet-Tooth Cinnamon Roll or southern Chicken ’n Waffles.

If you're thirsty, you'll find spiked peach tea or a decadent shake made with peanut butter, banana and bourbon.

Naturally, country music will be played as well.

While not confirmed, it is expected The Mason Jar will be a specialty restaurant location that has an additional fee to dine there.

Why Mason Jar?

Given the restaurant serves south food, it makes sense to call it The Mason Jar.

Mason jars are widely used in the south, and used for canning, preserving, or storing food. In fact, southerners commonly refer to any glass storage vessel used for these purposes generically as a Mason jar.

Other names Royal Caribbean considered included Savannah's Table and Palmetto Room.

Where will it be located?

According to the deck plans, it will be on Deck 15 near the Windjammer.

In zooming in on the concept art for the Mason Jar, it's clear to see a menu.  Whether or not the menu is accurate remains to be seen.

The world's largest cruise ship will call Port Canaveral and the Central Florida area home next winter.

Royal Caribbean announced the soon-to-be-launched Wonder of the Seas will be based in Port Canaveral between November 2022 and April 2023.

From Port Canaveral, Wonder of the Seas will offer sailings to the Eastern Caribbean, including stops at Perfect Day at CocoCay.

The cruise line says the new sailings open later today.

Wonder of the Seas was already scheduled to spend summer 2022 in Europe, and at the conclusion of her season there, she will transition to Port Canaveral to begin her winter season from Florida.

Wonder of the Seas is finalizing the construction process before she debuts in March 2022 from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The inaugural sailing of Wonder of the Seas is scheduled for March 2022. Wonder will spend a few months in South Florida before heading to Europe in May 2022.

Wonder of the Seas is the fifth Oasis Class cruise ship and will take away of world's largest cruise ship from Symphony of the Seas when she debuts.

Wonder is 236,857 gross tons, measures 1,188 feet in length, and has a maximum passenger capacity of 6,988 passengers, in addition to 2,300 crew.

In fact, Wonder has 100 cabins more than Symphony of the Seas.

Another difference between Wonder of the Seas and other Oasis Class ships is the addition of an eighth neighborhood to offer a private suite area onboard the ship. It will feature an exclusive deck with its own pool, bar and plenty of sun loungers, as well as nooks for lounging.
